What They’re Wearing in: Paris, France

There is no better place to get your fashion inspiration than Paris, France, the fashion capital of the world. From a fashion industry that dates back to the 17th century to the origination of haute couture, Paris has no shortage of fashion history under its belt. While Paris is home to high fashion and luxury, it is also the master of leisurely fashion. No where else achieves effortless style quite like Paris. Parisians truly are the pioneers for a classic and timeless style and I have gladly followed suit while transitioning my wardrobe from summer to fall.
Stripes
Stripes are arguably the most famous wardrobe staple in Paris everyday wear. Stripes are a simple and timeless pattern that is frequently overlooked in American fashion, so the Paris outlook on the pattern is certainly understandable.
Neutrals
One thing the classic Parisian wardrobe does not have is bright colors. The majority of local’s closets are filled with blacks, whites, grays, browns, and muted colors. I would go as far to say that if you see someone in bright colors in Paris, it is a tell-tale sign that they are American.
Sweaters
Another classic look is their use of layering, particularly with sweaters. A sweater tied across both shoulders is a classic look in order to casually keep your sweater on without getting too hot in the peak of the day. It is a very functional yet stylish option for layering. Another popular way to style this sweater overlay is by putting one side over your shoulder and the other under your shoulder. Both ways of tying are solid options that add dimension to any outfit.
White blouses with trimming
This particular wardrobe staple is one that was worn more towards the end of summer, but some find ways to style it into their fall wardrobes, adding a lovely feminine detail to a fall outfit. Many opt for a beige or brown wool or trench coat over their white blouse. Another frequent fall styling is throwing a cardigan over the white blouse with the trimming sticking out at the neck-line.
Pants
Last, and certainly not least, is pants. Do not get me wrong, many Parisians sport full length skirts or dresses, but more times than not they are seen wearing trousers or jeans. Skirts and shorts are more common in warmer weather, but even at the end of August more Parisians were sticking to their thin, loose, and flowy trousers than mini skirts and shorts.
