3 Ways to Elevate Your Gift Wrapping

3 Ways to Elevate Your Gift Wrapping

By: Mary Boyte

Looking for ways to make your holiday present wrapping a little more special this year? Look no further. We have rounded up some easy tips and tricks to spice up your holiday wrapping this winter season. These looks use supplies you might already have in your home, or you can easily pick them up in any craft store. Without further ado, here are three ways to elevate your wrapping game.

Idea #1

The first look is a rustic take on regular present wrapping. Drying oranges is a great and easy way to add a little something extra to any decorating project. Add your freshly dried oranges to some cinnamon sticks, attach some sprigs of pine, then tie it together with some twine. Then, you’ll have a stunning, rustic gift!

Bonus: it smells amazing.

Beyond the basics, you will need:

  • Navel oranges

  • Cinnamon sticks

  • Twine

  • Burlap or any preferred ribbon

First, you will need to dry the orange slices. To do this, I used these instructions from Martha Stewart. Make sure to cut the slices very thin. I also found that it works best if you use the middle rack and rotate the pan after an hour. After your oranges are done, let them cool and bundle them with your cinnamon sticks and pine sprigs with some twine. I found the easiest way to attach the orange slices was to separate them a tiny bit at the rind, using a sewing needle, and then push the twine through. Attach your bundle to the front of your gift by using tape or hot glue. The wrapping looks best if you use plain brown crafting paper and add some burlap ribbon first.

Idea #2

For our second look, we’re using sugar cookies as our inspiration. Adding some cookie cutters to your wrapping is a great way to include an extra little gift for your loved one. For an extra touch, print out a recipe to attach alongside the cookie cutters. I used this easy sugar cookie recipe

Beyond the basics, you will need:

  • Mini cookie cutters

  • Printed recipe

  • Large ribbon of choice

This wrapping method is pretty simple. Just tie up the cookie cutters and the recipe in a cute bow, and attach them to your present!

Idea #3

Next, we have a nature-inspired look. Think of bare trees with patches of snow dotted by red cardinals. This wrapping idea is a simple way to invoke all the wonderful feelings that come with the holiday season--while still looking sleek and sophisticated.

Beyond the basics, you will need:

  • Mini wreath

  • Thin red ribbon

  • Round gift tag

First, you will need some nature-inspired wrapping paper. Here are some rolls similar to the one shown in the picture. Next, tie one end of your ribbon to the top of your mini wreath. Tape down the top of your wreath to make sure it stays centered on your present. Wrap the loose end of the ribbon around the back of the package and tape the remaining end underneath the bottom of the wreath. Finally, take a round gift tag and tape it to the center of the wreath. Don’t forget to write the “to” and “from” first! If you don’t already have a round gift tag, you can find a downloadable one here
