Create the Ultimate Holiday Tablescape

Create the Ultimate Holiday Tablescape

By: Sarah Tonos

The holiday season is approaching upon us quickly. Family and friends gather to enjoy good company, eat flavorful food, and maybe even exchange a gift or two. Your table becomes the center of good conversations and fork to plate interactions. A beautifully set table is not just pretty to look at; it tells a story to your guests too. Below are 5 steps that make holiday tablescaping not so intimidating.

Consider your Color Palette

Considering your color palette is an important first step in creating a table spread that feels cohesive, even during the holidays. Whether your palette is colorful or neutral, there are accessories available that will perfectly suit your style.

Get Creative with your Greenery

Bringing greenery to your table is the perfect way to give it life and the unique ambiance the holiday season brings. If you or your family is one to buy a real Christmas tree, trim off a few of the lower branches and add them to your table.

Layer, Layer, Layer

The holiday season calls for a little extra warmth and a lot of layering. Layering is the time to add your personal touch to the table. Begin with a tablecloth or a table runner. Next, drape your greenery from the head of the table to the end. Now it is time to accessorize. If you are aiming for a whimsical tablescape, consider adding Anthropology’s Asta Wool Garland or a Holiday Village House. If your palette is neutral, consider adding McGee and Co.’s Winter Glass Tree or the Wooden Nutcrackers

Add Height

Vertical interest is what sets a true tablescape apart from an everyday table setting. One of the simplest ways to add height is with taper candles and candlesticks. A few of my personal favorites include Anthropologie’s Humble Home Candles or McGee and Co.’s  Gold Menorah with timelessly elegant candlesticks.

Don’t Forget the Details

Consider adding a few small additions that make your table extra personal, like handwritten place cards or a handwritten menu card on top of the dinner plate. Details like this will make your guest feel truly welcomed at your table.

Planning your holiday tablescape ahead of time can ease the stress of entertaining. A patterned tablecloth, napkins, serve ware, and accessories can bring any table look to life and create the celebratory feeling that we all long for during the holidays.
