Fall: The Season of Binge-Watching
Fall: The Season of Binge-Watching

As the fall weather sets in and the leaves begin to change, binge-watching takes on a seasonal significance.
Binge-watching has become a dominant way in which we consume media and entertainment. Platforms such as Netflix, Max, Hulu, Disney+, and other major streaming services have offered thousands of shows and implemented the (dangerous) auto-play setting to keep the episodes rolling. This modern phenomenon allows viewers to experience a sense of escape and immerse themselves in a world that can last for hours or even days.
As the fall weather sets in and the leaves begin to change, binge-watching takes on a seasonal significance. Fall wouldn't be fall without warm colors, nostalgic candle scents, and cozy clothing. Something about the cooler air and shorter days makes it the perfect time to cozy up with a remote in hand, and the excitement for upcoming holidays such as Halloween and Thanksgiving gives people all the more reason to enjoy some downtime with their favorite seasonal shows and movies. Seasonal staples go beyond certain styles and delicious recipes, as the nostalgia associated with iconic, feel-good cinema provides the perfect outlet to turn to every fall.
Few shows embody the cozy vibes of fall quite like “Gilmore Girls,” and the whimsical atmosphere of Coraline brings a touch of spookiness as Halloween approaches. One can always count on the nostalgic charm that the Harry Potter franchise brings, with a mix of adventure, friendship, and magic creating the ideal fall favorite. Rom-coms such as When Harry Met Sally and You've Got Mail provide unmistakable charm and warmth through stories of love blossoming.
Beyond the classic favorites, avid fall binge-watchers have been looking forward to the release of seasonal movies and sequels this year. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the highly anticipated sequel released September 6, features the return of the mischievous Beetlejuice to wreak havoc on the Deetz family. Grotesque body horror was brought to life in The Substance, released September 20. Joker: Folie a Deux, released October 4, follows Arthur Fleck's continued descent into madness and explores his complex relationship with Harley Quinn, featuring a compelling performance from Lady Gaga. On a more sentimental note, We Live in Time, starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, explores the emotional journey of a couple as they navigate love, loss, and the passage of time. The long-awaited horror sequel Smile 2, released October 18, follows a new protagonist haunted by a malevolent entity.
While these popular releases have certainly satisfied viewers, many continue to express their eagerness for the release of Wicked, a film based on the iconic and timeless musical, and the return of a family favorite, Moana 2; both set to hit theaters in November.
Binge-watching classics as well as new releases will undeniably take up the time of many home-bodies and suckers for a good comfort movie this season.
