Where Are They Now? with IzzyB Goldstein

IzzyB Goldstein, a former creative team member of Square Magazine with a degree in Journalism from the University of Mississippi, has a desire to take everything life has to offer and spin it into gold. It has been almost two short years since Goldstein graduated and took off from Oxford to begin her new life in New York City.

Goldstein’s love for fashion was fostered at a young age. “Whether it was my Halloween costumes or prom dresses I sort of always felt like I stuck out,” she says.

She claims her love for clothes is actually a major problem living in New York because “...literally nothing fits in [her] closet.” Goldstein relates to the notorious Carrie Bradshaw saying, “I might also have to use my oven to store my shoes.”

Due to there being no “fashion major” offered at the university, Square offered Goldstein an opportunity and a creative outlet to further explore her passion and meet like-minded individuals. She explains how eye-opening it was, “...watching the creative directors like Elena Ossoki bring amazing ideas to life. Square reminded me of how creative I can be and am, and that was something I had forgotten for a little bit.”

As a little girl, Goldstein dreamed of living in Manhattan, but it always seemed untouchable. As a kid she spent holiday weekends with her family visiting the city, watching Broadway shows, walking through Central Park, spending afternoons shopping at Bergdorf Goodman, and “chowing down” on burgers at PJ Clarkes.

Her childhood dream became a reality in the summer of 2022 when she landed a fashion internship in NYC for a small menswear company. She spent that summer exploring the city and working in fashion alongside her best friend and fellow Square alumni, Ruby Reeves. She eventually landed a job with the same company that loved her work ethic and wanted her back to work full-time.

Goldstein currently resides in Greenwich Village on the top floor of a quaint apartment building that she has courteously nicknamed “the penthouse.” Although she began her career in New York for a small menswear company, tables turned and life threw her unexpected curveballs.

“I love living in NYC, don’t get me wrong, but it can be challenging and I have had to face some major obstacles. Although that’s the beauty of New York. You live, learn, and love.”

Last April, Goldstein made the tough decision to leave the fashion industry in order to find a job that allowed her to fully utilize her creative abilities.

“I followed my dad's footsteps, made a major career change and entered the world of insurance,” she expresses, “I love the people I work with now and I love the freedom of the role I have. If you know nothing about insurance it is a very social job and if you don’t know me, well I am a social butterfly. I can confidently say that I have a newfound love and respect for myself, the city and how far I have come.”

Fashion is always in the back of Goldstein’s mind. She describes how she loves to accessorize with fun jewelry pieces and play around with fun textures and colors, “Walking around the streets of NYC is like a personal fashion show. There is inspiration everywhere from the subway to the busy streets downtown.”

Goldstein's world is filled with exploration, friends, and love. “All I can hope for right now is happiness, health, and success. As long as I have those three things in five years, I know I did something right along the way.”
