Five Things To Do in Oxford This Fall
By: Tyler Leik
Fall is here, and we could not be more excited! The arrival of fall marks the beginning of fashion’s greatest season. Oversized blazers, sweaters, and puffer jackets all move to the front of our closets, and life makes sense again. The next question: where to wear them. Here are five things to add to your fall bucket list in Oxford before it is too late.
1. Pumpkin-Picking at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church
Fall is not complete without pumpkins. No matter how old you are, pumpkin-picking is a highlight of the season. At the intersection of 9th Street and East Jackson Avenue, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church hosts their annual pumpkin patch. Not only is this the perfect opportunity to pick some pumpkins and decorate your stoop for the season, but it also has the potential to be the perfect photo-op.
2. Local Farmers’ Market
If you have not already, visiting the farmers’ market is a must, especially in the cooler months as visitors try to stock up on all their favorites before they are gone for the season. There is nothing better than fresh produce to brighten up your apartment, home, or dorm.
A fan favorite in Oxford is the Oxford Community Market, open from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Another favorite is Midtown Farmers’ Market which operates every Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and again on Wednesdays.
3. Day Trip to Memphis
If you have the time, a day trip to Memphis is always a good idea. It provides an opportunity to break out your cooler pieces and take advantage of the countless Instagram photo opportunities.
While in Memphis, not only can you make a pit-stop at Trader Joe’s for the seasonal snacks, but there are also tons of festivals being hosted downtown this fall. Some we are most looking forward to include the Memphis Food and Wine Festival on October 16th and the River Arts Festival on October 23rd and 24th.
4. Southside Art Gallery
When it comes to photo-ops and livening up your feed, an art gallery is a great way to go. The Southside Art Gallery is the perfect place to wear your first oversized blazer of the season and introduce fall colors to your feed.
5. Get Outdoors
In mere weeks from now, the trees will have changed colors, and fall will be in full swing. With that, what better way to welcome the season than by walking through the season’s brightest colors? Located at the South Campus Recreation Center, the Whirlpool Trails are always a great option.
The opportunities for fun fall activities in Oxford are endless and not limited to this shortlist. Get out and explore Oxford while the weather begins to cool down and the leaves start to change.
