Podcasts for Your Next Audio Adventure

By: Briley Rakow

The perfect companion for any long walk or road trip, podcasts have surged in both popularity and quantity over the past few years, leaving us with an abundance of choices. Every topic from true crime to pop culture is examined in detail by  researchers, influencers, and everyone in between. As plentiful as they are, finding the perfect podcast to fit your mood can be difficult, but with a few simple recommendations, you may just find your next audio adventure.

Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard

If you are looking for something entertaining, inspirational, and educational all in one, look no further than Armchair Expert. Dax Shepard, known for his numerous comedic acting roles, is insightful and hilarious in every episode. Interviewing celebrities, experts on every topic imaginable, and his listeners with Monica Padman, Shepard has created a wonderful catch-all podcast that will keep you engaged throughout every episode.

Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain

Emma Chamberlain is a zeitgeist pillar, and this status continues to ring true in her podcasting efforts. In each episode, Chamberlain focuses on a different topic ranging from friendships and relationships to her views on things she notices within our culture. Her episodes are all done solo from the comfort of her bed in typical Chamberlain-style, and the feel is similar to everything she does: friendly, real, and incredibly entertaining.

Morbid

True crime is not for everyone, but for anyone who enjoys a little mystery, Morbid is worth a listen. Episodes are heavily researched and can definitely be scary at times, but the hosts keep them just light enough to be more intriguing than horrifying. From well known serial killers to singular events, Morbid covers all things creepy in a way that will have you on the edge of your seat every time.

Unlocking Us with Brené Brown

For listeners more interested in inspiration and self-help, there is no one better to turn to than Brené Brown. An esteemed researcher with several books, TedTalks, and television appearances under her belt, Brown delves into vulnerability and connection in honest conversations with fellow researchers and public figures to create insightful episodes for listeners. One thing is for sure when dealing with Brené Brown: you will walk away from every episode with a little more insight into the human experience than you had before.

On My Mind with Ava Jules

Ava Jules is a successful Youtuber and a recent entrepreneur who started a podcast this past summer with the intention of having open conversations about navigating life in your 20s. The show is evenly split between “story time” episodes that engage with listener questions, stories, and one-on-one conversations surrounding personal growth and wellness. Jules is a down-to-Earth and genuine personality that will have you feeling like you are talking to your best friend in no time.

Revisionist History

Many of us have heard a reference to Malcolm Gladwell at some point or another, whether it be because of his many successful novels or one of the theories he has produced. Revisionist History is a podcast dedicated to re-examining things that have happened in the past to determine if we should think about them differently. Gladwell’s research is thorough and his ideas are always thought-provoking, sure to leave you with new interesting thoughts and questions to take to your next social gathering.

Podcasts are a simple way to help pass the time while doing otherwise mundane tasks, and whether you are looking to learn or just be entertained, there is something out there for every type of listener in the modern marketplace.
