In this edition of our Square Spotlight series, I got to speak with senior Rachel Staehling, an art major from Madison, Mississippi with a keen eye for fashion and a standout sense of style.

How would you describe your style?
“Minimalistic feminine with a splash of edge and an eye for comfort. My style is changing constantly, and that ultimately depends on the mood I am in at the moment. In the warmer months, you can usually find me in flowy pieces with pops of color, and in the colder months, I mostly stick with neutral tones, tailored silhouettes, and lots of layers!”
Who is your style icon?
“Camille Charriere. Hands down. She is the ultimate French girl my style aspires to be.”
What is your favorite color to wear?
“Olive! Having dark hair, dark eyes, and tan skin, olive is your best friend.”

What is your favorite trend?
“I still cannot get over the square-toe trend that resurfaced around two summers ago. Fashion needed an iconic 90s style to be brought back to life. The way designers pushed it was so inspiring. You can definitely find several, very loved, square-toe sandals in my closet. I have been online shopping recently and have seen that trend be incorporated into boots as well, maybe I will have to try it out for myself…!”
What trends are you most looking forward to this fall?
“Natural tones from head-to-toe and western boots!”
High top sneakers or low top sneakers?
“Low-top sneakers.”
Tall boots or booties?
“Booties, and more specifically, combat and moto boots!”
Colors or neutrals?
“Neutrals.”

“Straight jeans.”
Fall/Winter or Spring/Summer?
“Fall/Winter.”
What is your go-to outfit for a night out?
“A silky tank or blouse, straight jeans, and gold minimalist jewelry.”
What are your favorite pieces in your closet right now?
“I just got a pair of crème culottes and an oversized waffle-knit vest that I am obsessed with for this season. My Levis are an oldy--but still a classic, go-to piece.”
Favorite brands?
“Rag and Bone, AllSaints, Zara, Ganni, and Reformation.”
If you could keep one piece of clothing in your closet for the rest of your life, what would it be?
“My straight-leg jeans! They are my favorite piece of denim I own and add such a classic touch to any outfit. I will probably never get rid of them unless they literally fall off of me…haha!”
