Square Spotlight: Ruth Emmerich

Square Spotlight: Ruth Emmerich

By Elena Ossoski

When it came time to decide where to go to college, Ruth Emmerich never imagined staying in Mississippi. Born and raised in the state’s capital, Emmerich dreamed of breaking away from her southern roots. Looking back, Emmerich cannot picture what her life would have looked like if she had gone anywhere other than Ole Miss. Once fearful of repeating high school, Emmerich has now found herself in love with Mississippi and more in tune with herself and her ambitions than ever before.

Inherently creative, Emmerich has always craved an outlet for her visions. Prior to finding Square, Emmerich was weary that Ole Miss may lack like-minded individuals who shared her passion for the arts. Emmerich has been an integral part of this magazine since her very first day. Her rampant optimism and romantic point of view help keep this magazine playful and inspiring.

Her sense of style is authentic and reflective of her bubbly presence and easy-going nature. Emmerich often pairs floor-grazing skirts with her favored Adidas and Saint Laurent Micas. Never one to shy away from a vibrant color pairing, she communicates her lightness and joy through her clothes.

Emmerich’s creative spirit shines through her leadership here at Square. As this year’s Creative Planner, Emmerich has found her stride leading our creative team alongside Creative Director Kaitlyn Steinroeder. For the upcoming 2024-25 academic year, Emmerich will take over Steinroeder’s role as Square’s Creative Director.
