Where Are They Now? with Emma Mitchell

Where Are They Now? with Emma Mitchell

By: Elena Ossoski

Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Emma Mitchell is making a life for herself in New York City after recently graduating in the spring of 2020. With a Business Marketing degree and years of invaluable experiences under her belt, Mitchell’s blossoming career is one to watch. Mitchell tells me that her decision to come to Ole Miss was an easy one:

“I was so drawn to the livelihood of Oxford itself and the people that surrounded it! Anytime I came to visit in high school, I never wanted to leave!”

While working at Cicada boutique throughout her four years at Ole Miss, Mitchell used her business connections to obtain a covetable internship that allowed her to achieve her dream of working in New York City. Her internship led her to her current position: assisting ----- and always on the move.

“I worked at Cicada all of college, which was the best experience of my life, and then it led me to my internship in New York one summer at a fashion showroom, and both jobs helped me get my current job!” Mitchell said. “Never think you’re dreaming too big or aiming too high! Anything is possible, and believing in yourself is what will get you far.”

Her irrefutable work ethic and dream-chasing mindset is definitely the most admirable and aspirational asset Mitchell has. While tangible achievements are easy to point out, Mitchell’s spirit and personality make her an alumnae to watch

“Ole Miss shaped me majorly into who I am today,” Mitchell said. “I grew into an adult there, having to learn so many life lessons and managing tough classes on top of a social life, and it was a huge growing point for me and very necessary for the real world!”

Mitchell’s administrative support at Ole Miss is what every student dreams of. While preparing to graduate after four wonderful years at the university, Mitchell’s professors were an endless source of inspiration for her.

“They gave us advice on how to be professional, how to communicate appropriately, and what people truly expect from you in a work environment,” Mitchell said. “I can honestly say that I have used every single piece of advice that they gave to us.”

As a lover of the fast-paced lifestyle that defines New York City, Mitchell never hides from dreams and goals that are larger than life. Her career has only begun, and Mitchell reveals that she can see it continuing down countless pathways in various professions. Her love for fashion and interior design are just a few fields that have caught her attention.

Mitchell said, “I’ve always been a big dreamer. I knew I wanted to make it to New York one day, and I did. Of course, I’m still dreaming of doing my own clothing line one day: I want the line to be bold, edgy but still include neutral pieces because it’s the way I dress, and I would absolutely love to be able to share it with everyone!”

Stylish as ever, Mitchell reveals that she is continuously inspired by her days spent on the city’s sidewalks. New York and all of its glory serve as constant inspiration for Mitchell’s daily looks and dreams for the future. Her favorite spots in the city are the walkable and shoppable neighborhood sidewalks of the West Village and the breathtaking view from the Standard Hotel that looks out to the city’s skyline and over the water.

“A great outfit shouldn’t be limited to just an event: dress as FUN as you want every single day, it always makes my day better if I am dressed how I want!”
