Where Are They Now? with Rachel Long

Where Are They Now? with Rachel Long

By: Elena Ossoski

A former Editor-in-Chief of Square Magazine, you may or may not already be familiar with Rachel Long. Since earning her alumna status, Long left her life-long home of the great state of Mississippi and headed for New York. She captures moments on film, loves Harry Styles, a trip to the Met, and a night out at a cool restaurant; Long is just a normal girl in New York City.

Taking inspiration from her life, Long started the “Normal Girl in NYC” email newsletter that communicates a breadth of thoughts, ideas, loves, and musings that come to her mind. “I feel like it's been a little bit all over the place, which is exactly what I promised when I started it, that it would be chaotic,” said Long.

Opinions on British superiority, sharing summer outfit inspiration from the chic, elderly women of the world, and revealing the emotionally-charged experience of leaving what she once believed to be her dream job can all be found in previous newsletters. With so much variety in its contents, readers are kept on their toes, wondering what is to come in the upcoming editions of the newsletter that is sure to capture the heart of anyone who comes across it.

“It's just been fun. I like it, but I don't know what it's going to look like in the future,” said Long when asked about the nature of her newsletter. The unknown is a friend because it leaves enough room for the possibilities to remain endless. In Long’s case, new career moves, upcoming travel, and another summer in the city have made the unknown all the more enticing.
