12 Jaw-Dropping Red Carpet Moments

12 Jaw-Dropping Red Carpet Moments

By: Briley Rakow

As the year winds down, we look back on the most memorable red carpet outfits Hollywood’s stars have graced us with throughout 2022. Choosing only twelve is no simple task, as celebrities and their stylists are constantly taking things to the next level with daring looks, but a few have stood out over the fashion haze.

Zendaya in Valentino at the Emmy Awards

We may as well start off strong with the icon herself, Zendaya. The youngest recipient to date of the CFDA Fashion Icon Award, Zendaya continues to astonish with her red carpet looks. While there have been many notable outfits concocted by herself and stylist Law Roach, her Emmy’s look stands out as an example of the timeless elegance of Hollywood glamor.

Gemma Chan in Louis Vuitton at the Venice Film Festival

The Venice Film Festival was subject to large amounts of publicity due to the drama behind the scenes of Gemma Chan’s newest film, Don’t Worry Darling. Chan, however, looked indifferent to the media fuss in a stunning Louis Vuitton gown that shimmered gracefully as she walked down the carpet.

Anne Hathaway in Armani Privé at the Cannes Film Festival

Anne Hathaway secured her status as a fashion icon this year, becoming a breakout star in the fashion sphere despite her decades-long career. She stunned in all of her Cannes Film Festival looks, but her strapless Armani Privé gown brought a certain Princess of Genovia nostalgia that cannot be overlooked.

Janelle Monae in Ralph Lauren at the Met Gala

With a unique spin on the “Gilded Glamour” theme, Janelle Monae’s look was one of the highlights of the Met Gala red carpet this year. Her sleek and sparkling gown was fit with a jeweled bodice and headpiece that she pulled off effortlessly.

Sydney Sweeney in Miu Miu at the Euphoria season two premiere

Sydney Sweeney took center stage this year with Emmy-nominated performances in both Euphoria and The White Lotus. At the second season premiere of Euphoria, she wore a two-piece Miu Miu outfit with matching opera-length gloves. With jewels covering the strapless top and scattered throughout the skirt, Sweeney embodied the glamor of Euphoria and the level of stardom she has risen to this year.

Florence Pugh in Valentino at the Venice Film Festival

Florence Pugh is no stranger to the spotlight, and her whirlwind red carpet entrance at the Venice Film Festival was no exception. She dazzled in a black, glitter-printed tulle dress by Valentino. Her jewelry and hair styling paid homage to old Hollywood, reminiscent of the time period in which her hit film Don’t Worry Darling was set.

Chrissy Teigen in Nicole + Felicia at the Grammy Awards

Chrissy Teigen accompanied husband John Legend at this year’s Grammy Awards, stealing the show in a gorgeous pink Nicole + Felicia Couture gown. The dress had a full, dramatic skirt, ruffles along the skirt and bodice, and a cinched waist that all added up to create the perfect red carpet appearance.

Blake Lively in Versace at the Met Gala

The always fabulous Blake Lively served as co-chair of this year’s Met Gala, and she dressed to impress. Her copper gown and matching opera gloves were transformed as she walked up the steps to reveal a long, turquoise train. Architecturally inspired, the gown exemplifies the oxidizing effect of copper and made Lively appear as the new face of “Lady Liberty.”

Sandra Oh in Carolina Herrera at the SAG Awards

When it comes to glamor, there are few who know it as well as Sandra Oh. The actress has starred on many award-winning shows, her most recent being Killing Eve on Hulu. At this year’s SAG Awards, she shone brighter than ever in a metallic Carolina Herrera gown with a billowing texture that reflected all the lights on the carpet.

Zoe Kravitz in Oscar de la Renta at The Batman premiere

Zoe Kravitz was the latest actress to take on the iconic Catwoman role in this year’s The Batman. When walking at the New York premiere, she wore an Oscar de la Renta gown that reflected the role perfectly. Black and fitted with cat ear designs, Kravitz was equally as mysterious as Catwoman herself.

Lily James in Versace at the Oscars

The red carpet at the Academy Awards is one of the biggest events of the year, and Lily James showed up ready to shine. The Pam & Tommy star wore an elegant pink Versace gown with lace detailing and a tulle train that was equal parts simple and sophisticated.

Emma Chamberlain in Louis Vuitton at the Met Gala

The youngest star on the list, Emma Chamberlain has been taking on the fashion world one red carpet at a time since she began to rise to fame on Youtube. At this year’s Met Gala, she was at the top of many best dressed lists in a Louis Vuitton corset-inspired two-piece outfit. Topped with a tiara and diamond necklace, the social media mogul was perfectly on theme and certainly earned herself an invitation to next year’s event.

The red carpet looks this year have ranged from reimagined history to future-focused takes on classic styles, and we expect even more marvelous looks from our favorite A-list stars in 2023.
