1. Kylie Jenner’s Lion Dress
Kylie Jenner sported a black gown with an oversized lion head on her shoulder during Schiaparelli’s Spring 2023 Haute Couture show in Paris. Fashion followers were quickly stunned by this look, turning to Twitter to start a discussion. Many people found the look insensitive, but Jenner later revealed through an Instagram caption that the lion was made out of faux fur.
2. Rihanna’s Super Bowl Announcement
After a five-year hiatus of live-performances, Rihanna showed the world her baby bump at the Super Bowl halftime show. Wearing a custom-made ensemble by Loewe and a leather coat by Alaïa, viewers were amazed once again by Rihanna’s style and stage presence.
3. Sofia Richie Grainge’s Wedding
Quite possibly one of the most monumental moments on social media this year was the wedding of Sophia Richie and Elliot Grainge. The two tied the knot in Antibes, a resort town located on the French Riviera. While Richie, now Grainge, has had a fan base most of her life due to her father Lionel Richie and various modeling campaigns, her wedding took the internet by storm. Soon after, the “clean girl” and “quiet luxury” aesthetics popped up all over social media with viewers wondering how to achieve her look for less.
4. Taylor Russel’s Metal Jacket
Sitting front row at Loewe’s Spring/Summer 2024 runway show, Taylor Russel was spotted wearing a jacket made out of pewter metal. While the shape of the jacket was nothing noteworthy, the material it was made out of stunned viewers. Russel styled the jacket with a black bodysuit underneath and paired it with black heels.
5. Pamela Anderson Going Makeup Free
During Paris Fashion Week, Pamela Anderson was seen with a bare face and natural hair. She stated to Vogue France that her decision to show up without makeup was a spontaneous one, and that she did it because it felt right. Her decision to challenge society’s beauty standards inspired millions of people to embrace their own natural beauty.
6. Jane Birkin’s Passing
Hermès’ Birkin bag has a long-standing history throughout pop culture. From shows like Sex and the City and Gilmore Girls, the Birkin is arguably the most infamous handbag of all time. Jane Birkin’s passing had a major effect on fashion this year, as people viewed her as a style icon and have chosen to commemorate her by continuing to draw inspiration from her timeless French-girl aesthetic.
7. The Supers
In a limited docuseries on Apple TV+, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, and Christy Turlington, the original supermodels, came on screen to tell the world their stories. The series walks viewers through how they started their careers and how they all came together to shift the power dynamic of the modeling industry. Vogue also featured the four on a cover, calling them “The Greatest of All Time.”

After a three year hiatus following her stepping down as creative director of Celine in 2021, Phoebe Philo has finally launched her own personal collection. Available exclusively online, Philo created a line not just for women, but about women. Philo has a cult-like following around the world, and everyone seems to be relieved that she is back.
2023 has been full of plenty of memorable fashion moments. From creative clothing pieces to new highlights in the media showcasing important people in the industry, we can only anxiously wait to see what 2024 will bring.
