Blake Lively Pays Homage to New York City with Her Met Gala Look

The 2022 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala is here. This year’s theme, “Gilded Glamour”, is one that memorializes the gilded age of American history through fashion.

Blake Lively, a co-chair of this year’s event, wore a Versace gown and matching gloves that transformed from copper to blue just as the metal does due to oxidation through a process known as patina. The Versace gown was also detailed with art deco designs like the ones found in the Empire State Building. Luxury jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz created a matching tiara to mirror the one worn by Lady Liberty. The tiara features the patina effect as the Statue of Liberty does as well as other unique features such as the seven peaks to represent the seven continents. To top it all off, Schwartz added twenty-two stones at Lively’s request to match the twenty-two openings in the statue’s crown.

In an interview that premiered during Vogue’s live stream of the red carpet, Lively explains that she chose to use this theme to highlight the golden and glamorous history of New York City’s architecture and her love of and connection to the city.
