Chanel Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2022

Chanel Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2022

Nearly every year, the Chanel Couture show greets its audience with something extraordinary. Be it the backgammon tables from 2015 or 2016’s sprawling garden, Chanel never fails to make quite the impression on their audience. Out of the dozens of shows throughout couture week, Chanel never fails to ensure that their show is the one to remember.

Spring 2022’s couture show was unlike anything you could imagine. Every expectation was exceeded, and then some.

The mind of Virginie Viard is out of this world. There are not enough adjectives to describe how monumental and absolutely spectacular the Spring 2022 Couture show’s opening was. Only Viard would go to such lengths to drop jaws at her show and she did just that at the Grand Palais on Tuesday.

As an ode to Grace Kelly, her granddaughter Charlotte Casiraghi, princess of Monaco, opened the show by galloping down the runway on Kuskus, her eight-year-old Bay horse. Casiraghi was dressed to compete all while embodying the elevation of the modern Chanel woman; she wore a classic tweed black jacket, riding boots, and helmet.

The show’s excitement did not stop there.

Following Casiraghi’s grand entrance, the show was light and felt just like a 1920’s summer with lots of feathers, fringe, and sparkle.

Chanel is versatile, it is sporty but chic, all while remaining very feminine. Not only was the show filled with the usual tweed jackets and layers, but also tied in Gatsby elements as seen throughout the 1920s and 30s. From ostrich feather accents, tulle, hand-painted skirts, classic chiffon, high low hems, satin gowns, and of course scarf panels trailing from the shoulders, an ode to the classic Coco Chanel model.

The chic glamour that is Chanel was also seen throughout the details of the collection, in the delicate beading, intricately designed buttons, and embroideries, just to name a few.

The overwhelming size of the Grand Palais, with the rawness of its reconstruction, coinciding with the great mind that is Xavier Veilhan, made for the perfect venue to compliment the simplicity yet overwhelming beauty of Chanel’s 2022 Spring Couture Collection.
