Fendi Fall-Winter 2021/22 Haute Couture

Fendi is back! The rebirth of the infamous Fendi baguette trend may have been part of the reason why the house came out swinging this season.

After the tragic passing of the legendary Karl Lagerfeld, Kim Jones was appointed to follow in Lagerfeld’s footsteps as Artistic Director for Fendi. So far, Jones has not disappointed - and the latest haute couture collection from Fendi is proof enough.

This entire collection is an angelic mirage of warm, neutral tones, lightweight feather accents, and three-dimensional floral appliques that have been juxtaposed with the sharp lines of a hidden geometric pattern.

Of course, I cannot ignore the fact that Lila Moss - Kate Moss’s daughter - and Christy Turlington both made an appearance on the runway. Moss’s all-white look was an intricate mini dress covered in snowflake-like cutouts and miniature flowers paired with stark white over-the-knee boots and opera gloves while Turlington showcased a regal evening gown that was draped in a way that mirrors the flow of fresh spring water.

Other variations of the mini worn by Moss were something straight out of a fever dream: the simplicity of a neutral dress is wiped away - in a good way - by the overload of show-stopping floral, gloved sleeves, and more of the incredible cutouts that are hard to believe were all done by hand.

To the untrained eye, an haute couture collection may seem ‘silly’ because of how expensive the pieces are, but the livelihood of this impressive craft is its exclusivity. In order to be considered true haute couture, all of the work must be done by hand. Naturally, the work shown in an haute couture collection always stuns since the audience is able to see the exhaustive hours and labor that the skilled seamstresses put in for months on end right in front of their eyes.

Inspired by the Romans and their lengthy yet beautiful history, Jones created fairytale-worthy evening gowns which became the cornerstones of the collection. Now, all I need is a closet full of Fendi and a one-way to Rome please and thank you!
