How to Wear It: Knee-High Boots

By: Katie Kerrigan

Of all the fall fashion staples, over-the-knee boots have unmatched style options. They add a chic and effortless feel to any outfit, exaggerate proportions to lengthen the legs, and look great paired with socks or tights to beat the chilly autumn weather. Here are a few tips to incorporate knee-high boots into your style.

Over-the-knee boots are great for making legs appear longer. This is especially true when they are paired with a shorter hemline. Start with a dress or skirt that hits mid-thigh. This can be paired with tights or knee socks for colder days. On top, a sweater or an oversized blazer will help create a layered silhouette to tie the outfit together.

If wearing jeans, sticking to a tighter fit is usually best. Slim and straight-leg style jeans pair well with over-the-knee boots because they hug and accentuate the legs while providing optimum comfort. For an extra lengthened appearance, choosing jeans with a mid or high waist will exaggerate proportions further.

Trousers are another fall staple that pairs well with knee-high boots. Because they are not as stiff as denim, they can be on the baggier side and still look chic. If wearing trousers, try finding a pair that hugs the legs and has a mid-to-high- waist. Pairing high-waisted trousers with a cropped sweater can also give the illusion of a longer silhouette.

Remember that color choice matters as well. Try to plan outfits that have 3-4 colors or experiment with different shades. Paying attention to the colors or shades of each piece helps tie the outfit together and create a more coordinated look. Accessories like bags and belts can be used to match or complement the boots.

Knee-high boots bring a dynamic touch to your closet and are easily styled for casual or formal looks. They can be a statement piece or tie an outfit together and are perfect for winter and spring looks because they can be layered to provide extra warmth while still looking stylish.
