Iconic Thanksgiving Styles in Gossip Girl
Iconic Thanksgiving Styles in Gossip Girl
By: Audrey Cooper
Nobody does Thanksgiving quite like the infamous Gossip Girl Upper East Siders. The Thanksgiving episodes of Gossip Girl are some of the most popular and fashion-filled that the show has to offer. Somehow, the young elites of Manhattan manage to stuff their mouths with pumpkin pie and get themselves wrapped up in love triangles, scandals, and juicy lies every season. Jam-packed with hot gossip and couture, here are our favorite fashion moments from each Thanksgiving episode.
Season 1: “Blair Waldorf Must Pie”
The audience’s first taste of a Gossip Girl Thanksgiving is one for the books. In this episode, the viewers get to witness the festivities of the current year and a glance of the year prior. Chaos and family drama ensue upon the beautifully dressed characters. The best fashion moment of this episode goes to the queen herself, Blair Waldorf.
Blair wears the “Dita” Marc Jacobs dress paired with her signature headband, Steward Weitzman purse, Wolford tights, and BCBGMAXAZRIA heels. This outfit has created a huge fan following, with Marc Jacobs selling out of the dress and many still trying to recreate the iconic look. Blair’s Nanette Lepore dress in the prior year’s Thanksgiving also causes double takes with its elegant simplicity. Another honorable mention goes to Serena Vanderwoodson’s drunken Thanksgiving look with a cheetah print jacket and perfectly blown out blonde hair.
Season 2: “The Magnificent Archibalds”
Manipulation, lying, and betrayal would usually be associated with any day of the year besides Thanksgiving, but all is fair in love and war for our favorite Upper East Side socialites. The episode showcases tons of drama, but also serves beautiful fashion moments such as Mrs. Vanderwoodson’s Hugo Boss dress with a Brunello Cucinelli trench coat and simple Christian Louboutin pumps. Serena also makes a stunning appearance sporting a Porter Grey skirt and a silk Charmeuse shirt paired with Ginga Nine West shoes. For her favorite holiday, Blair is featured in a dark green dress designed by Alexandra Vidal paired with Jimmy Choos.
Season 3: “The Treasure of Serena Made”
This episode is a fan-favorite as all the characters are brought together to depict one of the largest and most intense Thanksgiving dinners yet with Jason Durelo’s hit “Whatcha Say” playing in the background. According to Kristen Bell’s voice over, this Thanksgiving episode is a “bountiful harvest of secrets, lies, and scandals.” Serena (in the midst of a love scandal with Trey) is rocking a low-cut, lacy black jumpsuit by Stella McCartney. Mrs. Vanderwoodson and Trip Vanderbilt’s wife both wear the same gorgeous, red Valentino tweed jacket. It-girl Blair is featured in a Nanette Lepore red tweed coat paired with Pour La Victoire Petra heels.
Season 4: “Gaslit”
This episode rings in the drama we all know and love, although a step further than the episodes prior with one character entering rehab and another making a dramatic return. Blair steals the show with a Barneys New York Tartan Dress and a Diane von Furstenberg Abbe Sweater Jacket. Jenny Humphry comes in a close second with silver Rania Spinelli over-the-knee Tab Boots, which she couples with a Zero+Maria Cornejo Fall 2009 Coat and a Haute Hippie Mummy Bandage Mini Skirt.
Season 6: “It's Really Complicated”
This season, Dan and Serena decide to take their turn in hosting Thanksgiving dinner. Although they hope to escape the yearly drama, it is quickly revealed that this episode is just like the rest with dark agendas and a roller coaster of events. Serena wins this season’s best look with a stunning Alexander McQueen Intarsia Knit Dress. Over the dress, Serena wears a vintage-style apron from Anthropologie (the Tea-and-Crumpets Apron), although we know Serena definitely did not cook this meal.
With so many infamous looks throughout the show, there is plenty of inspiration to create the perfect Thanksgiving look for this upcoming holiday season. If only we all could have the couture budget of the Upper East Side elites.
Until next Thanksgiving…
