Is Cheetah Print A Closet Staple?
Is Cheetah Print A Closet Staple?
By: Claire Watkiss
With the trend cycle moving faster than ever, it can be hard to determine whether or not to take part in a new trend. Cheetah and leopard print have been filling up our feeds, with creators even calling it a closet staple. Is this just another cash grab or is it something we should incorporate into our wardrobes?
The popularity of animal-printed patterns began in the early 2000s. Reality star Nicole “Snookie” Polizzi was infamous for repping both cheetah and leopard print, even calling it “her color.” As years went on and trends shifted, there was quite an absence of animal print anything. The beginning of 2024 has completely changed that. Cheetah and leopard print are back in full force. This time, the take on the trend seems to be much less flashy. This leaves the question if this pattern is a closet staple or just another recurring trend that will soon cycle back into oblivion.
“Data, but make it fashion” is an account on Instagram that analyzes the popularity of certain trends. A recent poll out of nearly ten thousand responses showed that 70% of people agree that leopard print is a neutral pattern this season. The trend has been displayed in a variety of ways, each person making it their own. Arguably the most popular printed piece is this pair of Ganni pants. These pants are being styled just like any other pair of jeans; paired with t-shirts, sweaters, and jackets of all different colors and styles, these pants seem to go with just about everything.
Others are implementing this trend into their closets by pairing a simple outfit with animal print accessories. A cheetah print shoulder bag is the perfect hint of this trend for a night out on the town. Leopard print cardigans and sweaters are also favored, again being worn the same way you would style any other sweater in your closet.
Given the neutrality and versatility of both leopard and cheetah print, this trend may be one you want to invest in. It offers the perfect pop to an otherwise basic outfit. You truly only need one piece that is patterned to make an array of different looks that stand out this season.
