Celebrating 40 Years of Iconic American Style with J.Crew
By: Bella Duncan
September marked “40 years of American style” with J.Crew. The brand celebrated its milestone anniversary with a pre-New York Fashion Week party where no detail was spared. The party took place at Pier 17 Rooftop, complete with a performance from The Strokes, oysters all around, and a wooden boat photo-op.
Former and current Creative Directors Olympia Gayot, Jenna Lyons, and Brendon Babazien attended the party alongside Hollywood icons like Diane Keaton, Adam Scott, and Joshua Jackson. Since taking on the role of Creative Director for Womenswear in 2020, Gayot has breathed new life into the classic brand and introduced a love of timeless styling to a new generation, displayed by the attendance of younger celebrities including Sadie Sink, Camille Row, and Leon Bridges. Gayot unintentionally became an influencer by cataloging her daily outfits on her Instagram and reintroducing the familiar brand with fresh, current styling.
In anticipation of the event, J.Crew honored model Laura Hutton – 13-time catalog cover model – with a feature entitled “Icons only,” showcasing the brand’s most memorable, quintessential pieces. Among these items are trench coats, button-downs, blazers, and nautical stripes, all of which remain brand staples to this day. Photographs of the items included the date they were introduced, most dating back to the 1980s, illustrating the longevity and influence of J.Crew.
J.Crew’s fall 2023 collection commemorates 40 years of American style with classic, timeless pieces and a campaign full of familiar faces. Shop the campaign here.
