Marc Jacobs Spring 2025 Ready-to-Wear

Marc Jacobs Spring 2025 Ready-to-Wear

By Hollis Ann Newbill — February 10, 2025

Marc Jacobs turned the New York Public Library into a runway on Feb. 3, making this the stage for one of the most powerful fashion spectacles of the year. The designer has a reputation for creating pieces that mirror today’s culture, giving his Spring 2025 collection the title Courage

The venue was the perfect backdrop for a collection that was less about escaping reality and more about confronting it. Models flooded the runway with a sense of strength that rejected the norms, showcasing garments that celebrated both power and vulnerability in a rare, raw harmony.

Coats with extraordinary padding, chenille sweaters, and gowns in striking red and pink shades were designed to make a statement. The symbolization of “courage” was displayed as bubble skirts rose as protective shields and dresses covered in shimmering paillettes appeared to dance with life, defying the mundanity of everyday existence. The pieces did not symbolize a shrinking from challenges, but growing larger, more formidable, and resilient.

Shoes refused to blend into the floor below with dramatic curves and horned embellishments. The looks urged the Jacobs customer to challenge fashion's practical limits, while oversized handbags and beauty also demanded attention.

Everything in the collection was meant to provoke and make a statement that could not be ignored, as flowing, oversized nightgowns evoked childhood innocence and nostalgia.

Elongated evening heels resembled an Alice in Wonderland feel, and the words “nostalgia,” “Victorian,” “flamboyant,” “theatrical,” and “striking” spoke to Jacobs’s creativity and what was undoubtedly made known in the show. The impracticality of the pieces demanded attention and demanded heads to turn.

The soundtrack was a haunting, cyclical piece by Philip Glass that further intensified the atmosphere. The familiar music charged the collection with an urgent tone as if each piece and each step was a reminder that things are shifting and norms need to be changed, whether we’re ready or not.

At the heart of this collection was a call to action, but it wasn’t spoken aloud. Marc Jacobs didn’t need to address the audience directly; he let the silence speak for itself. There were no grand speeches or announcements from him. His designs stood as a statement: the time for silence had passed and now was the moment to be heard.

Jacobs’s show wasn’t just about fashion. It was a collective cry for everyone willing to stand tall in a world that seems to change faster than we can comprehend. It was an urgent plea for self-expression, for resistance, and for a refusal to shrink in the face of this world that demands a say on what is fashionably practical and what is not. Fashion became not only a form of creative expression but a tool for resilience and a way to resist the forces trying to silence us. This was a collection meant to stand tall in the face of a strict society, and it was clear: those who dared to wear it would do so.
