Louis Vuitton Cruise 2024

Louis Vuitton Cruise 2024

Last week, the glamor and lights of an upscale fashion house descended upon the once quiet Lake Maggiore during Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2024 show. Despite some trouble with the weather, Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière was able to present the collection among a star-studded crowd at the Isola Bella mansion, which was a clear inspiration for the designs.

In true spring fashion, the collection is light and airy, but also utilizes colors from across the spectrum. It is clear that the collection is inspired by the setting around it as well as the sea in general. The marrying of structured pieces like blazers with large, whimsical headpieces seem to reflect the many facets of the sea, while still keeping the tone dream-like. Masks and glasses resembling fish give nods to the many myths associated with the sea.

The many textures used are what makes the collection stand out. Ghesquière opted to use neoprene for many of the pieces including structured trousers and matching sets. At the same time, multiple pastel gowns made appearances with chiffon structures and tufts on the sleeve, resembling mermaids. Fish-like collars and structures furthered the ocean theme, found throughout the collection on everything from jacket collars to the bodices of the gowns.

It would be remiss not to mention the use of bags throughout the collection when considering the history of the fashion house. Ghesquière does not shy away from the use of handbags, especially utilizing his new twist logo technology. Some standouts from the collection include brightly-colored bucket bags, a clutch with a nod to the original white LV pattern, and a shoulder bag that looks like it was crafted from sea glass. This was another great showing for Ghesquière in terms of the cutting edge handbag design.

Despite the snafu of the weather, Louis Vuittion’s 2024 Cruise collection was a show of whimsical creativity. The show’s appreciation for the myths of the water created beautiful garments and handbags for the house to continue to build upon in future collections.
