Be the Host with the Most This Thanksgiving Season

Be the Host with the Most This Thanksgiving Season

By: Briley Rakow

Halloween is behind us and it is time to move into the holiday season, complete with parties, potlucks, and pressure galore. Thanksgiving is all about togetherness and gratitude, but it is easy to get caught up in the planning of it all if you are not prepared. Whether you are hosting a true Thanksgiving dinner or a Friendsgiving occasion, there are a few things you can do to create an event both you and your guests will be able to enjoy.

The first step to planning the perfect Thanksgiving gathering is picking the menu. Everyone loves a classic turkey and stuffing combo, but you are not limited to the traditional Thanksgiving foods when planning your meal. For a more casual gathering, consider having a few appetizers for people to snack on while socializing rather than a full sit-down dinner. If sticking to traditions is more your style, keep it classic and be sure to plan your grocery trip well in advance to avoid last minute stress.

Though food is the centerpiece of Thanksgiving, decorations are always welcome. Think warm tones when purchasing items, and keep things relatively subdued to fit with the message of the holiday. Light a fall-scented candle and lay out some pumpkins or gourds to create an autumn ambiance.

With food and decorations prepared, you are left with the all-too important question of what to wear. Thanksgiving is an elevated occasion, but still fairly comfortable when it comes to clothing. There is no going wrong with a simple sweater, your favorite pair of jeans, and some cute boots. If you want to take things a step further, try a leather skirt or mini-dress under a fall cardigan. Knee-high boots are all the rage this season, and can make any simple holiday outfit appear more well thought out.

Thanksgiving and Friendsgiving alike are a time to spend among loved ones enjoying the blessings in our lives. Avoid getting caught up in the hussle and bussle of the holidays by preparing in advance and focusing on the reason for the season.
