Meet Chloe Malle, Vogue’s New Head of Editorial Content

Meet Chloe Malle, Vogue’s New Head of Editorial Content

By Sophie Amen — September 15, 2025

On Sept. 2—after 37 innovative years of Anna Wintour’s influence—Vogue announced that Chloe Malle will be taking over as head of editorial content. Malle has worked as a Vogue editor and a co-host of “The Run-Through,” Vogue’s weekly fashion and culture podcast.

Malle began her career in journalism at the New York Observer after graduating from Brown University in 2008. She joined Vogue in 2011.

Though Malle stated that fashion was not one of her main interests in life, she was “...so seduced by the Vogue machine that [she] couldn’t resist,” she said in a 2014 interview with Into The Gloss

She served as a social editor for five years before becoming a contributing editor for the magazine. She quickly rose through the ranks as she wrote features and oversaw special projects. In 2022, she established “The Run-Through” with co-host Chioma Nnadi and, in 2023, became editor of Vogue.com.

As the daughter of actress Candice Bergen and screenwriter Louis Malle, speculation about Malle’s “nepo baby” status has given way to opinions and judgments about her perceived privilege. However, Malle claims that due to her extensive past with Vogue, she is more than qualified for the role.

In fact, Malle has noted that she is a “proud nepo baby,” acknowledging how she undeniably benefited from the privilege she grew up in, yet that her privilege is something that has made her work much harder in an attempt to prove herself.

Regardless of her status, Malle thinks it is crucial to change things up for Vogue.

“There has to be a noticeable shift that makes this mine,” Malle said to The New York Times.

In terms of what she plans to do differently content-wise, Malle thinks that less is more. Releasing issues less frequently and aligning them with specific themes or cultural moments—rather than following the current monthly schedule—appeals to Malle, as she wants future editions to resemble collectible items that are high-quality and rare in a way. Similarly, she wishes to build a more direct audience that embraces Vogue’s niche through its website.

Malle’s experience and expertise in journalism make her an ideal candidate to inherit the title of head of editorial content. But what does Anna Wintour think of all of this? As it turns out, Wintour essentially hand-picked Malle for the job—and is not retiring by any means.

“The truth is that no one’s going to replace Anna,” Malle further told the Times

Wintour still holds the position of chief content officer and Malle’s direct supervisor. Wintour still influences Vogue’s content—right down the hall from Malle.

As Malle steps into her new role, she brings an appreciation for the past and a clear vision of the future for Vogue. The world will be watching closely as Vogue’s new era is defined, with Malle now at the helm.
