What They’re Wearing in: Stockholm, Sweden

The city of Stockholm is the heart and soul of Sweden. When the sun shines in Stockholm, all is right in the world. This spring, locals took to their bikes and trekked across the city in sharp trainers, horn-rimmed sunglasses, and covetable knits.

The most important element of the outfits seen on the streets seemed to be the shoe. While going from one spot to the next on foot or by bike, smart trainers and flats dominated below the ankle. Veja sneakers, Birkenstocks of every shape and size, and seemingly brandless boots were paired with sensible trousers, jackets, and tees that were just as appropriate for the office as they were for post-work drinks along the Söderström river.

To complement the sensible footwear, wide-leg linen trousers with sharp darts filled the streets. Pedestrians on their way to unwind from a day at work put on a chic display in neutral outfits. Anyone who says black pants are boring is probably not from Stockholm. Faux leather flares, jeans, wool trousers – you name it and they were wearing it in black.

Thanks to the sunny spring weather, the only necessary outerwear were light sweaters to be draped over the shoulders or a cool jacket (dealer’s choice). After a long winter, the seemingly endless sun is welcomed with open arms and squinted eyes. Most passers-by had on shades with sleek silhouettes, but the funky frames were almost as common as a rounded pair in a classic tortoise finish.

The celebration of personal style is apparent across all generations that inhabit the city of Stockholm. When it comes to great style, age is irrelevant, and the proof lives in Sweden’s capital.
